PITE POLITICS 2016: Scott Jones Sacramento
Sheriff Scott Jones (Lincoln Law School Class of 2000) was elected Sheriff of Sacramento County in 2010. He joined the Sheriff’s Department in 1989. Sheriff Jones was promoted to sergeant, lieutenant, and finally captain in 2007. After graduating from law school in 2000, he was assigned as the Sheriff’s Department’s Legal Advisor. Sheriff Jones sits on many community and law enforcement boards including the Board of Directors for the California Peace Officers’ Association. In addition to his duties as Sheriff, he is also an adjunct professor for newly promoted law enforcement supervisors and managers throughout the state.
Scott Jones started with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department in 1989 as a Security
Officer at the then-brand new Main Jail. As a deputy, he worked in corrections, patrol, and
Legal Affairs. He was assigned as the Department’s legal advisor for over seven years. He
promoted through the ranks to Sergeant, Lieutenant and finally Captain. He commanded such
Bureaus and Divisions as Internal Affairs, Legal Affairs, the Main Jail, and Centralized
Investigations Division, and served as an assistant to both the Chief of Corrections and Sheriff
McGinness.
Sheriff Jones ran unopposed in 2014 and was reelected sheriff for a 2nd Term. As Sheriff, Scott
instituted an annual strategic planning process that prioritizes projects and continues to drive the
Department forward. In 2012, he parlayed a federal COPS grant award into a one-of-a-kind
multi-jurisdictional, multi-agency gang violence reduction IMPACT Division that has had
phenomenal results in youth outreach, reducing gang-related assaults and homicides, and
getting weapons off the street.
Sheriff Jones has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from CSU Sacramento, and a
Juris Doctor (Law) degree from Lincoln Law School. He is also a graduate of the West Point
Leadership Program.
Sheriff Jones sits on many community and law enforcement boards, including as Vice President
of the California Peace Officers Association (CPOA).
In addition to his duties with the Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Jones is also an adjunct professor
at both the community college and state college levels, teaching liability and discipline to newly
promoted law enforcement supervisors and managers
Sheriff Jones is married to his wife Christy, and they have four children; Alexandria, Sarah,
Christopher and Andrew.

REALLY SCOTT?
Let's Talk About Scott Jones Performance Against His Words:
NEWS:
WASHINGTON
Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones, who’s running for Congress against Democratic U.S. Rep. Ami Bera of Elk Grove, is making immigration and national security the center of his campaign.
Jones, a Republican, said in a meeting last week with McClatchy and The Sacramento Bee that Americans were afraid and the Obama administration’s statements and actions weren’t helping. He gave as an example San Bernardino shooter Tashfeen Malik, a Pakistani national allowed into the United States on a K-1 fiancĂ©e visa.

According to reports from ABC News 10, the department obtained the Stingray, a small device that collects countless cell users data by mimicking a cell tower, several years ago without informing the public, local judges or prosecutors.
Scott, who has reportedly failed to provide any substantial information to media and civil liberties groups, became outraged as one reporter began questioning his department’s lack of transparency.
“Are you proud of disrupting an academy graduation?” Scott says before storming off camera. “We’ve dealt with your incessant badgering of our department over these issues.”
Sacramento County Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Grippi, who admitted to never once seeing a Stingray warrant, told reporters that any sort of cell phone tracking would absolutely require one.
“We request a search warrant in all of those cases,” Grippi said.
Despite refusing to outright admit to owning the device, records revealed that Scott’s department provided information regarding Stingrays to police in San Jose.

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones' claim he had to break either state law or federal by releasing or detaining undocumented immigrants was not only untrue, but my local TV and print news media accepted the untrue claim without scrutiny and without investigating the multiple cases of Sheriff Scott Jones violating a California state law called the TRUST Act, as I show in this video.
The clips I use of CBS 13 news anchor Sam Shane and Sheriff Scott Jones come from a segment on KOVR's February 20, 2014, broadcast of the "CBS 13 News at 10" which I have not found available online.

Sheriff's Deputy David McEntire has been sued three times for allegedly using excessive force, including the case where he shot a young mentally ill man to death. The officer has also faced at least a half dozen internal affairs complaints.

$13 MILLION !!!
It was a damning verdict, one of the strongest rebukes against local law enforcement in recent memory.
A Sacramento County jury didn’t simply award four women$3.6 million in their lawsuit against the leadership of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. It ruled against the culture within the Sheriff’s Department in a way no local elected official would dare, sizing up Sheriff Scott Jones and the top men in the hierarchy below him and saying: We don’t believe you.
The four women, deputies themselves, had broken ranks and violated the sacred bond among cops when they told a jury that their careers had been harmed after they challenged the powerful men who run the department.
Some of the women testified that the problems began when current Undersheriff Erik Maness showed preferential treatment to another female deputy in his command. When they spoke out about this, their complaints were not only rejected, the women said – they were punished for making them.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Tracie Keillor was hit with an internal affairs investigation. She said she suffered a stroke from the stress of the conflict in 2013. She was awarded $3.2 million in damages by the jury.
Deputy Jodi Mendonca was awarded $66,240 for being removed from her post after blowing the whistle on the alleged preferential treatment. So was Lt. Dawn Douglas, who was awarded $185,000 after being stripped of her command.
At the same time, Lt. Annica Hagadorn, the highest ranking African American female in the department, became the subject of multiple internal affairs investigations after speaking out about what she saw as discrimination within the department. She was awarded $100,000 for emotional distress from the jury.
Maness denied allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with the female deputy or showed her preferential treatment. He denied that he punished anyone for suggesting as much.
